On behalf of the City of Portsmouth, I would like to express my support for the Craney Island Eastward Expansion project. We are greatly encouraged by the efforts to develop a new marine terminal, which will support local, regional, and state-wide economic stimulus. |

The Craney Island Eastward Expansion addresses many regional concerns including the critical need for future dredged material disposal capacity. Representing a large component of the regional economy, Hampton Roads’ shipping and ship building industries, as well as the military, rely on Craney Island to handle dredged material resulting from regular maintenance dredging within Norfolk Harbor. These channels represent a lifeline for regional economic growth and the future success of Virginia’s ports and supply chain industries. |

On behalf of the entire membership of the Virginia Maritime Association (VMA), I want to express our continued support for the Craney Island Eastward Expansion project. The VMA is a non-profit trade association founded in 1920 with the mission of promoting, protecting, and encouraging commercial shipping through The Port of Virginia. The VMA boasts a membership of over 550 parties directly or indirectly involved in the flow of waterborne commerce. As “the voice of the Port” representing these interested parties, we fully support the expansion of Craney Island for additional dredged material disposal and future port development. |

Dollar Tree is a growing company with over 3500 stores nationwide. Import Operations Manager, Melanie Wingler emphasized the importance of the Craney Island Eastward Expansion to supporting the companies future growth. “The Craney Island [Eastward] Expansion will ensure that The Port has enough capacity to not only handle Dollar Tree’s future growth, but will help attract new services and strings from steamship lines calling on Norfolk.” |
